Well Easter is over but thankfully the sunshine is still here!
One thing that seems to catch out the less experienced bird watcher is the difference between a Shag and a Cormorant. When they are together, it is easy to tell them apart, but on their own it can fool you sometimes (especially when they are young). At this time of the year the Shag makes life easy with its distinctive "shaggy" tuft on the top of its head, as can be seen from the photo below. The 2nd picture is of a Cormorant and conveniently there is a Shag in the background to clearly show the difference.

For a change some morning trips today, and it was a pleasure to see our Guillimots and Razorbills back on their ledges on Cardigan Island. We also has a great porpoise sighting between Cardigan Island and cemaes head and our friendly seals. All this plus sunshine! One passenger got a few good photos of our porpoise so hopefully we'll be able to upload those soon.

More evening trips today. The Auks are still missing from Cardigan Island but we did see a Peregrine Falcon taking its catch from the Island over Cardigan Sound to the mainland. We also spotted a solitary Porpoise in between Cardigan Island and Cemaes Head on our seal beach there were around 150 seals again hauled out on the beach.

Beautiful weather for todays trips. The Auks were back on Cardigan Island and our seals are still out in strength at Cemaes Head. I counted 125. No cetacean sightings however, I wonder when we will get our 1st sighting of the Bottle Nose Dolphins this year?

It was pretty windy today, however we did manage to get out and we were rewarded with our 1st Cetacean sighting of the season, a solitary Harbour Porpoise just off Mwnt. The Auks have decided to shelter from the Southwesterly winds so had disappeared from Cardigan Island. Finally we saw 4-5 seals before heading back in over the bar.

Our 1st trip of the season today and although we didn't see any Dolphins, our Auks and Seals are both out in strength. There was a mixture of around 50 Guillimots and Razorbills starting to gather on the ledges on Cardigan Island, together with the usual selection of Gulls, Shags and not to forget the Canada Geese. Around Cemaes Head there was approximately 50 seals hauled out on the shingle beach with at least another 20 in the water around the boat.
